Immunizations

We offer a large variety of both preventative immunizations and travel vaccinations. Be sure to consult with our pharmacists about which vaccination you may need. We provide these on-site for your convenience. The following immunizations do not require an appointment: Flu, Pneumonia, Shingles, Meningitis, Boostrix (Tetanus), Hep B and MMR.

MEASLES

Recommended For: Those who (1) received the measles vaccine between 1963 and 1967, or (2) work in health care, or (3) travel often (international travel is a greater risk), or (4) worry that they may not be immune.

More Information: The measles vaccine is low risk and only one dose is 93% effective at preventing the disease.

MENINGITIS

Recommended For: When two or more of the following apply – asplenia, sickle cell disease, heart disease, asthma, COPD, autoimmune disease, diabetes, healthcare worker, or travel to countries with an increased risk of epidemics.

PNEUMONIA (PNEUMOVAX)

Recommended For: 65 years of age and older AND received Prevnar 13 more than one year ago

More Information: This vaccine is recommended for those younger than 65 years of age but with any of the following conditions – smoker, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, COPD, liver disease, cochlear implant.

PNEUMONIA (PREVNAR)

Recommended For: 65 years of age and older

More Information: This vaccine is recommended for those younger than 65 years of age but with any of the following conditions – cochlear implant, sickle cell disease, asplenia, autoimmune disease, and organ transplant.

SEASONAL INFLUENZA

Recommended For: Six months of age and older

More Information: The normal vaccine is quadrivalent, meaning that it covers four strands. There is also a high dose vaccine available for patients who either have predisposed conditions or are over 65 years of age.

SHINGLES (SHINGRIX)

Recommended For: 50 years of age and older

More Information: This vaccine is a two-part series that occur within two to six months of each other. It is 95% effective at preventing the shingles.

TDAP (BOOSTRIX)

Recommended For: Those who (1) have never received a booster, or (2) are unsure of when they received a booster, or (3) have either a newborn or a baby on the way.

More Information: This vaccine prevents the spread of whooping cough to infants who cannot receive the shot themselves.

HEPATITUS B

Recommended For: Children and adolescents younger than 19 years old who have not yet been vaccinated. These are also recommended for adults living with diabetes and those at high risk for infection due to their job, lifestyle, living situation or travel to countries where Hepatitis B is common. All college students, in particular those enrolled in health care profession programs, should receive hepatitis b vaccines.
